ProtonVPN Speed Test: 2026 Latest Results

Speed is one of the most important factors when choosing a VPN. We conducted comprehensive speed tests on ProtonVPN across multiple global regions.

Test Methodology

We tested in five regions: Taiwan, Japan, US, UK and Germany. Each region tested local and remote server speeds using WireGuard and OpenVPN protocols at morning, noon and evening times.

WireGuard Protocol Results

WireGuard is the fastest protocol. Results: local server (Taiwan→Japan) only 5-8% speed loss, 460-475Mbps. Remote server (Taiwan→US) 15-20% loss, 400-420Mbps. European servers 18-22% loss.

OpenVPN Protocol Results

OpenVPN is slightly slower than WireGuard. Local server 10-15% loss, remote 25-35% loss. Better compatibility and network restriction bypassing.

VPN Accelerator效果VPN Accelerator Effect

VPN Accelerator boosted remote connection speed by 20-40%, especially effective for high-latency connections. For Asian users connecting to US/EU servers, it significantly improves experience.

Speed Optimization Tips

Use WireGuard protocol for best speed
Choose nearest server
Enable VPN Accelerator
Avoid peak hours
Choose less loaded servers
Ensure sufficient base network speed

总结Conclusion

ProtonVPN's speed performance in 2026 is satisfactory, especially with WireGuard. While not as fast as some speed-focused VPNs, considering its excellent security and privacy, the speed loss is acceptable.
