ProtonVPN was founded in 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland by CERN scientists Andy Yen, Jason Stockman and Wei Sun. Initially, the team developed ProtonMail encrypted email service, becoming the world's largest encrypted email provider. To meet user demand for comprehensive privacy protection, they further launched ProtonVPN service.
